Diving In Cozumel
Spring 1999

Return Home

Yes, Cozumel is a great place to dive, even if I soon discovered that the symptoms for a hangover appear pretty much like decompression sickness when it's 4 in the morning.  Steve, Roger, and I went, and we hooked up with a group called "Staff Divers".  I'd recommend them, although one of the drivers wasn't very good at taking the waves!  Now, I'd have photos of a giant ray, but the ****ing camera I rented that day hadn't been loaded.  At least the dive master got a good laugh out of it...

Other than diving, there are a few things to do.  I took a Jeep around the island.  There are some cool places on the East side where you can get a beer, grab a hammock, and find a giant iguana on your car when you wake up (I'll post the pictures if I can find 'em).  Then there's dancing to bad music at Carlos & Charlie's or watching "la migracion de las ballenas rosas".  If you don't know what this means, simply ask a local, "Soy una ballena rosa?"

Rare Mexican Finger Coral.  See how much it looks like a human hand!

Yeah.  More fish.
